Dear readers,

In this issue we focus on Carla Luis, a young Angolan who, along with two other members of her family – her mother and her cousin - had to have both legs amputated as the result of a bomb explosion. Her disability has not prevented her from working in remote areas of Angola, carrying out the arduous task of helping people with disabilities overcome the extreme poverty in which they live and fighting for their human rights.

Her courage, willpower and determination have been through the years the main tools in her campaign for the inclusion of disabled people at all levels of society in Angola, which is certainly a cause for inspiration and an example for Angolans anywhere in the world. Carla Luis made history by becoming the first Angolan personality invited to be a guest speaker in City Hall, raising international awareness of the work of (LARDEF) an Angolan ONG and (DDP) (DDP) Disability Development & Partners a UK registered charity – in eradicating the social exclusion and poverty that affect an estimated 1.2 million disabled people in Angola.

We have followed Carla to all of her appointments whilst she has been in London, and we are proud to inform and promote the humanitarian work she is doing to support disadvantaged people.
